Dungeon Fantasy Roleplaying Game A Failure

The Steve Jackson Games Report to the Stakeholders is out, and the news for GURPS is grim.   The Dungeon Fantasy Roleplaying Game was a failure.   While it sold out, it cost more to produce than they thought it would.  It seems it was more a people resource cost than the material cost, which is fairly normal.   In this case, it sounds like failure to manage the resources and their costs ran up.

So, what does this mean for GURPS?   They've been saying that this will determine the future of GURPS in print, so the implication is GURPS in print is dead.   But they are doing print on demand (pod) via Amazon now and have plans to continue through 2018.   They have not said they would cease producing new material distributed as PDF.   Seems like they could do new material via POD, but maybe not.    But if the Basic Set is not being printed, I don't see much of a future for GURPS, it's already hard enough to find anyone willing to play.
